Nature is incredibly resilient, as demonstrated by the adaptability of many plants that live in inhospitable and challenging habitats. These plants include lithophytes that have adapted to grow on rocks and in crevices in harsh rocky environments: plants that live by the sea that are buffeted by salty spray and harsh wind: and plants that have to compete for limited resources.

In these paintings I explore combining abstract forms with realistic impressions to capture the remarkable beauty of these unusual plants.
