In the Spring after the rains there are pools of water atop hard clay or rocky soil.  They evaporate as the weather becomes hot.  These pools are home to many animals and frogs lay eggs that become pollywogs and eventually  frogs.  Along with frogs there are shrimp, salamanders, beetle and clams.  Forest animals visit the pool for drinking water.  A vital aspect of nature.
